I am a 53 old female and I was diagnosed with psoriasis in 1976 at the tender and self-conscious age of sweet sixteen.
At the time of diagnosis, I had never heard of the thing and it took me some time to learn how to pronounce it properly (sor-eye-as-is) and a wee bit longer to master the spelling!
I remember to this day the consultant dermatologist asking me if I had been under stress. I was doing my O’ level exams at the time which would only cause the usual stress to a teenage perfectionist and I did have the additional stress of being the eldest of five children in the aftermath of my parent’s separation and divorce with an arguments which would have left the “War of the Roses” in the shade.
I don’t think it helped that I was living in Derry in Northern Ireland at the height of the “Troubles”.
But, it does run in my father’s family so I think genetics have played their role too.
I would like to say that I have been ok living with this but the truth is, there are many times it has got me down and there have been many times I have not taken care of it very well.
I have decided to look after myself and my skin a lot more carefully.
I hope you find lots information on Psoriasis Spot to help you whether you have had psoriasis for a time or whether you have just been diagnosed.
